This Weeks News Sept. 19-23

This week in spelling we will focus on short i and short a words. We will spell words in the -all and -and families.
Words of the Week: his, is, an, and, can, all, call, land, hand, small
The test will be given on Friday.

In math we will continue with addition and subtraction strategies.

We will have a visit from a park ranger this week to prepare for our visit to Cedar Breaks next week. The field trip will be on Thursday, Sept. 29. We will be learning about the three kinds of rocks this week. We will be making each of the different types in class.

Watch for a note coming home asking for reading helpers. We will begin with our helpers the week of Sept. 26.

We made a volcano in class the other day and some of the students wanted to do it at home. Here is what you need. (We just estimated the amounts. If you don't get a very good lava flow, add a little bit more of each ingredient.)

1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide
1 tsp. yeast
glass soda bottle (we used a bud vase in class)
Pour the hydrogen peroxide in the bottle. Add the yeast. Swirl (gentle shake) it together. Watch the lava flow.
